Fr. Paul Ballien, Pastor

Fr. Paul Ballien

Fr. Paul, who joined the parish in July of 2011, is the ninth Pastor of St. Linus Church.

A graduate of Michigan Tech University in Houghton, MI, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology, Fr. Paul worked for several years as a medical research technician at a Michigan hospital.

Upon hearing God calling him in another direction, however, Fr. Paul left that position to enroll at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Detroit where he began studies for the priesthood. In 1999 he was ordained a priest with a Master of Divinity degree from the seminary and began a series of assignments as an associate pastor and administrator of area parishes. Prior to coming to St. Linus, Fr. Paul served four years as pastor of St. Ignatius Parish, the Archdiocese of Detroit’s mission parish in the Cayman Islands.

Happy with his current assignment, Fr. Paul has found parishioners to be warm and loving, and sees St. Linus as a great parish in which to minister. In addition to his duties at St. Linus, Fr. Paul serves as Vicar of the West Wayne Vicariate. In what little spare time he has, Fr. Paul can often be found feeding his two rather unconventional pets, pink and yellow Mexican Axolotls (salamanders) whom he has named Jack and Jerry. It is no coincidence that he has two deacons by the same names.
