Religious Education

We understand each person to be created in the image and likeness of God as a reflection of his goodness. We understand that Christ loves each one of us infinitely and that he calls us to know him so that we may develop a deeper understanding of who we are called to become — living witnesses of the Gospel.

At St Linus, Religious Education is a total parish experience. Religious education refers to all forms of instruction in the faith, from Sunday School classes and Vacation Bible School to sacramental preparation for those seeking to become Catholic.

Education of the faithful is one of the Church’s chief responsibilities and is accomplished at the parish level through the work of the pastor, members of the parish staff, catechists, family members and occasional speakers who are invited to share their knowledge and inspiration for the benefit of the parish.

Religious education helps to introduce newcomers to the faith and helps to strengthen the faith of those who are already Catholic. It is important to remember that while the parish endeavors to do all that it can to educate the children entrusted to our care, the Church has always considered parents to be the first and primary educators of their children.

As stated in documents of Vatican II, “As it is the parents who have given life to their children, on them lies the gravest obligation of educating their family. They must, therefore, be recognized as being primarily and principally responsible for their education.” Vatican II Declaration of Christian Education.

We pledge to do all that we can to support parents as primary teachers of the faith to their children, and we invite all families to explore the many educational programs offered for young and old alike!
