Christian Service

Integrating Faith into life through Christian service is a stated objective at St. Linus Catholic School.

In our school, knowledge and practice of the Catholic faith are incorporated into all aspects of the curriculum. A key component of this approach is providing the link between Catholic social teaching and service which integrates those teachings into the students’ daily lives through age-appropriate service projects.

In our Religious Education effort, service projects are a huge part of our program from the First Grade through the Seventh and Eighth grade classes learning about the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Service projects open to student participation in the parish include:

  • Creating and sending greeting cards to homebound members of the parish.
  • Donating food and non-perishable items for those less fortunate each week.
  • Offering to serve as ushers, greeters and lectors at the monthly Sunday morning Family Mass.
  • Assisting in the preparation and distribution of Thanksgiving Day dinners at Manna House each year for those in need.
  • Assisting as classroom aides and participating in special activities throughout the year; helping with crafts, serving others and mentoring other students. These events include Vacation Bible School, retreats for sacramental classes, Easter Egg Hunt, Trunk & Treat Activity, Santa and Easter Breakfasts, & Fish Fry helpers.
  • Helping out with children’s games and raffle prize redemptions and other activities at our annual Parish Festival each September.
  • Packing special tote bags of toiletry products and food items during specific seasons of the liturgical year for our homebound parishioners.
  • Helping to pack food baskets for distribution to families in need each Christmas.
