Choosing St. Linus

Why choose St. Linus Catholic School for your children?

– Why Choose SLCS Trifold Brochure

As parents, we are called to educate our children’s minds and form their souls to be good stewards of Christ. Catholic schools stress the value of self-discipline and commitment. Catholic school faculty members are qualified professionals committed to bringing out the best in their students as they grow in faith, knowledge, skills, and values.

At St Linus Catholic School, students not only get an excellent academic education, but also explore their faith through classes and activities in Scripture, sacraments, and appropriate social and cultural activities. With faculty and staff who are role models in sharing their faith, we have the opportunity to study our faith, pray openly, and put Christ-centered faith into action – all day, every day.

St Linus Catholic School strives to create a special bond among students, the home, the school, and the parish, so that all share the strong sense of an extended family working together. Families play an integral part St Linus Catholic Community, and we encourage and value family input and involvement in the ongoing education and faith development of their children. With this philosophy, students learn their special place in the family, the Church, and society.

Tuition cost is often supplemented by the parish, (on average, about $1500 per student) so the community shares the cost of education. The school has long been identified as an essential mission of the St Linus Catholic Community.

Our Preschool hosts both a 3 & 4 year old program with full-day and half-day options, offering a fun, caring environment with a rich variety of learning experiences.

All-day kindergarten sets an outstanding foundation for literacy in a nurturing environment.

Grades K-8 attend classes with an average class size of 19, allowing for focus on individual student needs while maintaining a healthy classroom size for operational vitality.  Our 2017-18 IOWA Tests results show each grade an average of  1 year and 8 months above grade level, with 8th grade scoring 4 years and 3 months above grade level.  Students engage in an average of 150 hours of religious formation per year; including weekly liturgies.  A “Buddy system” pairs older students with younger students for liturgies and other programs, fostering relationship-building, leadership, and Christian service. Algebra is part of our 8th grade curriculum, building a solid base for success in high school.  Our curriculum includes art, music, p.e., and Spanish for grades k-8 provided by Berkley Public Schools.

In addition we offer morning and afternoon extended care, daily hot lunches, and assorted extra-curricular and sports opportunities.

Teachers are certified through the Michigan Department of Education and our school is accredited through the Michigan Association of Non-public Schools.
